Neither this morning nor afternoon’s practice session for Saturday’s Petit Le Mans, the ninth and final round of the 2010 American Le Mans Series season, saw much running. Of the 45-car field, only 26 cars took competitive times in the one hour from 10 to 11 a.m. local and Eastern Time, and merely nine were out in the afternoon from 2:35 to 3:35 p.m.
The morning session started with a damp track that slowly dried out. Meanwhile, a light but steady rain fell consistently in the afternoon. Most teams opted to stay in the paddock and preserve their cars.
In the morning, the No. 9 Audi Sport Team Joest Audi R15 Plus TDI led the No. 07 Team Peugeot Total Peugeot 908 HDi FAP, Marcel Fassler with the quickest time over Marc Gene, 1:09.579 to a 1:09.638.
Highcroft Racing is back to being in the P2 class per Automobile Club de l’Ouest regulations for this race, the first North American round of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup. The HPD ARX 01-c was fourth fastest overall at 1:11.759.
Corvette Racing led GT2 in first and second with nine of the 17 cars in class taking times.
Porsche’s 911 GT3 R Hybrid ran a fastest lap of 1:22.684, only 1.272 seconds off the fastest Corvette in the wet-dry conditions.
In the afternoon, only nine cars went out. The second Robertson Racing Doran Ford GT-R (GT2 class), the No. 04 of David Murry, Anthony Lazzaro and Rob Bell, was fastest overall at 1:33.319 on a wet track. The Porsche Hybrid ran the most laps of anyone, 27 with drivers Timo Bernhard, Romain Dumas and Mike Rockenfeller.
