The Nissan DeltaWing improves to 3:42.612

Its 11pm at Le Mans. Do you know where your favorite teams are?

If they are featuring a diesel/flywheel hybrid (Audi) a capacitor hybrid system (Toyota) or a radical new design concept (Nissan DeltaWing) they are enjoying the late sunset and drop into darkness in the first qualifying session.

Midway through the late Wednesday evening two-hour session and the teams are starting to show their respective hands. Allan McNish tops the charts aboard the #2 Aud iR18 –etron Quattro with a lap of the 8.5-mile circuit at 3:26.536 but Toyota’s Kazuki Nakajima is just 0.655 seconds behind aboard the #7 Toyota TS030 Hybrid.

Audi’s Marcel Fassler in the defending champion #1 Audi is currently third with Mike Rockenfeller in the #4 Audi fourth just ahead of the #8 Toyota of Anthony Davidson.

Meanwhile, the #0 Nissan Delta Wing has made the first page of the timing screens with a 3:42.612 by Michael Krumm, putting the turbocharged Nissan 1.6 liter DIG T nearly 2.5 seconds ahead of its ACO proscribed target time.

Corvette Racing’s Tommy Milner leads the GTE-Pro battles and is the first to drop into the 3:55 range with a 3:55.9. He is followed closely by Dominick Farnbacher in the #59 Luxury Racing Ferrari and the #73 Corvette, just taken over by Jordan Taylor.

The AF Corse Ferrari of Andrea Bertolini is next, followed by the Flying Lizard Porsche of Spencer Pumpelley, Wolf Henzler in the Felbermayr-Proton Porsche, the Aston Martin of Stefan Mucke and the Flying Lizard Porsche of Patrick Long.
