tudor_laguna_02may_15_qualifyinglmp_001Fresh from a pole and a victory on the streets of Long Beach, Wayne Taylor Racing continued to roll in qualifying for Sunday’s Monterey Grand Prix at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. This time it was Jordan Taylor who turned the fastest lap in the No. 10 Konica Minolta Corvette DP during the 15-minute Prototype qualifying session, capturing his first pole position in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship.

tudor_laguna_02may_15_qualifyinglmp_002Taylor covered the roller-coaster 2.2-mile circuit in 1:18.718 to take the pole by a .222-second margin over Scott Pruett in Ganassi Racing’s Ford EcoBoost Riley DP. Michael Valiente will start third on the grid in the VisitFlorida.com Corvette DP.

“We knew we had a strong car here, and I knew it was a pole-winning car,” Taylor said. “Hopefully we can do the same thing that we did in Long Beach – lead from the front and dictate the race.”

In the continuing fight for supremacy in the Prototype class between the agile P2 cars and the powerful Daytona Prototype entries, the DPs prevailed in qualifying today. Ozz Negri led all three practice sessions in Michael Shank Racing’s Ligier/Honda P2, but co-driver John Pew qualified the lightweight machine fourth today, nearly a second off of Taylor’s pole-winning pace.

Chris Cumming topped the seven-car Prototype Challenge field by a narrow .004-second margin over Mike Guasch. Patrick Lindsey took the GT Daytona pole in the Park Place Motorsports Porsche 911 GT America by .981 seconds over Marc Miller in the No. 93 Riley Motorsports Dodge Viper SRT. Eleven cars will contest the GTD class title in the Monterey Grand Prix.

The two-hour, 40-minute race will be televised live on Fox Sports 1 on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. ET.
