Van Overbeek celebrates 100th race
Extreme Speed Motorsports’ Johannes van Overbeek is the next American Le Mans Series driver to celebrate his 100th series start.
The popular Californian GT ace has driven BMWs, Porsches and now Ferraris in the championship and after a charging performance to the front of the pack at Lime Rock Park, “Yo Yo” and teammate Scott Sharp are looking to celebrate the 100th race milestone with the team’s first race win this weekend.
“It is a statistic. It seems like a lot of races. Those 99 starts represent a lot of hard work, focus and concentration, the highest of highs and lowest of lows. I’ll approach my 100th start no differently than my prior ones. I’ll be working hard focusing hard to deliver the best result possible for ESM and Patrón,” van Overbeek said.
“I always want to be in the mix. To always be in a competitive car and competitive environment because it is only in competitive environments that truly good you know you are and how competitive environments help push you to learn more and to never let up. I’m thrilled to be part of the ALMS and I’m looking forward to the next 100 races.”
“I walked out of the trailer today and Scott told me I have an interview. Scott and the entire team surprised me with a very cool logo on the front of the Ferrari, reminiscent of my helmet and my 100th race. It was really thoughtful of them to do something commemorative for this race and that’s the kind of team ESM/Patrón is. They do thoughtful things for people. On my birthday at Long Beach they did a cake. It is a very thoughtful team and I couldn’t be prouder to be associated with them.”
The team’s #02 car is back on track this weekend after undergoing extensive repairs after Lime Rock Park. Guy Cosmo was pushed off track late in the race and suffered heavy damage after impact with the tire wall.
