Update 3: Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca

September 17, 2011

The LMPC title fight is certainly going to go right down to the wire here at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

With 90 minutes remaining, Elton Julian held the race lead for Genoa Racing with Gunnar Jeannette trying to put a dent in his slim advantage aboard the CORE autosport machine.

Julian was out to defend the championship lead which Eric Lux would have grabbed by taking a win here today.

However, seven minutes later traffic worked in Jeannette’s favor, taking the inside line under a GT Porsche while Julian went outside. Jeannette picked the right lane and jumped back in to the lead.

The Kyle Marcelli/Ducote brothers car held third spot as the sun started to set on the Monterey circuit.

Muscle Milk Aston Martin Racing’s championship hopes hit a set-back thanks to an oil pump issue. At the two hour, 18 minute mark the team had to go back to the garage. With an hour and 11 minutes to go – the #6 machine returned to the track, hoping to still finish 70 per cent of the race to be eligible for points.

Risi Competizione held the GT lead with 90 minutes to go, but handed it back to BMW in the pit stop shuffle.
