One of the ALMS’ most successful teams is Flying Lizard Motorsports, based out of Sonoma, Calif. Seth Neiman’s squad has won the last two drivers’ and MICHELIN® GREEN X® Challenge championships in GT, no small feat considering the level of competition.

When the West Coast-based team has packed up for an annual trip to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Lizards haven’t been so lucky.

The dynamic duo of Jörg Bergmeister and Patrick Long, Porsche factory drivers, has usually split up for Le Mans. Long has raced with the French IMSA Performance Matmut squad at Le Mans since 2007.

This year that is not the case, as the Lizards announced their driver lineup Tuesday morning. Bergmeister, Long and Lucas Luhr will race in the No. 80 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR in the GTE Pro class at this year’s 24-hour endurance classic.

New regulations put in play by the ACO gives Flying Lizard an increased chance at victory in not just the one, but two classes for 2011.

The creation of the GTE Am class, for gentlemen drivers and at least year-old cars, means the Lizards can enter two cars at Le Mans for the first time. Neiman, Darren Law and Spencer Pumpelly will race in this class in the No. 81 Porsche.

Both Luhr and Pumpelly will make their debuts for Flying Lizard, and for Pumpelly, this marks his first start at Le Mans.

With double the chances, will the luck finally turn for the Lizards at Le Mans? Only time will tell.
