Toyota moved a step closer to the FIA World Endurance Championship LM P1 championship victory when Anthony Davidson and Sebastien Buemi took their second consecutive win and their fourth of the season in Shanghai.

Both factory Porsches held the early advantage after the two Toyota’s elected to pit at the first yellow flag for a fuel top-up – negating the requirement to potentially make a late race stop.

AUTO - WEC 6 HOURS OF SHANGHAI 2014Both Davidson and Alex Wurz in the sister Toyota quickly sliced back through the field and took over the lead after rivals from Porsche and Audi made their first stops.

“Today the whole team did a great job with the right strategy and solid pit stops; everyone kept calm and focused on getting the result,” Davidson said.

“We showed we had the fastest car in Fuji and we’ve done that again here in Shanghai. We didn’t want to take too many risks, particularly in traffic so it was a relatively quiet race for me; Seb did all the spectacular work at the start.

“To get such a result at this stage of the season is huge for us and now we aim to continue like this in the final two races.”

Davidson and Buemi now hold a 42 point lead with only 52 points up for grabs in the last two races.

The first yellow was a disaster for the COTA-winning KCMG ORECA-Nissan 03R LM P2 car which slowed with a fuel pump issue and was hit in the rear by the GTE-Pro championship leader – Gianmaria Bruni’s AF Corse Ferrari 458 Italia.

LM P2 honors went to the G-Drive Racing Nissan of Olivier Pla, Julien Canal and Roman Rusinov which scored a three-lap victory over the ESM Honda of Scott Sharp, Ryan Dalziel and Ricardo Gonzalez.

The GTE-Pro win went to Porsche 911 RSR of Frederic Makowiecki and Patrick Pilet who took the win after an engine failure ruined the day for Aston Martin’s Stefan Mucke and Darren Turner.

Aston was able to take the GTE-Am win with Pedro Lamy, Paul Dalla Lana and Christoffer Nygaard victorious.

Next up on the calendar is the FIA WEC’s annual visit to Bahrain on November 15.
