Toyota leads wet night practice at COTA
The second free practice session for the FIA WEC Lone Star Le Mans at Circuit of The Americas took place in very wet conditions, but it didn’t stop the teams from turning laps.
Then again, teams didn’t have a choice, as they needed each driver to complete at least three timed laps in the darkness in order to be able to race at night on Saturday.
While the LM P1 teams exchanged positions atop the charts as the session winded down, it was the #8 Toyota Racing entry that finished night practice at the top of the time sheets with a fastest lap of two minutes and 1.333 seconds.
The #1 Audi Sport Team Joest came in second with a lap time of two minutes and 2.901 seconds with the #7 Toyota Racing car placing third with a time of two minutes and 4.419 seconds.
The #2 Audi and the #20 Porsche Team completed the top five.
The American entries of Corvette Racing and ESM Racing also participated in the session with the LM GTE Pro Corvette of Ricky and Jordan Taylor and Tommy Milner placing sixth in class thanks to a time of two minutes and 25.155 seconds. ESM Racing ended up second in the P2 class with a lap of two minutes and 17.087 seconds.
The FIA WEC teams will be back on track at 10:20 am local, Friday, September 19, 2014.
