Newly crowned ALMS GT champion Tommy Milner would be quite happy to have every race in the championship at VIR.
The young gun made his debut aboard a BMW for his father’s team in Grand-Am competition in 2004 here at VIR and promptly upstaged his teammates by putting the car on pole.
Years later and now in his second season at Corvette Racing, Milner has played a key role in the GM brand’s success this year – taking four race wins with Oliver Gavin en route to their driver’s title.
“This championship feels really, really good. I’ve had 2 short years with Corvette racing here, the team made me feel welcome since day one, and to bring this championship to them is amazing,” Milner said.
“Thanks to all the people who have helped me this year, and I want to say a special thank you to Scott Roembke from Bobby Rahal’s team who passed away a couple of weeks ago. He was was pretty instrumental in my career so I wanted to mention him today, and thank him.”
“This is a special place to win the championship. I had my first professional start here with my father’s team in 2004. I qualified on pole in my first race much to the annoyance of Boris Said and Bill Auberlen who I beat and they weren’t overly happy about it.
“I remember that day very well and I’ll certainly remember this one for a long time as well.”
