Time for final preparation at Rolex 24
The final practice session has been run and done with teams now preparing for tomorrow’s Rolex 24 at Daytona.
In a remarkable performance, Michael Shank Racing’s new HPD-powered Ligier again set the fasest time of the session today – make it five P1 results in five sessions so far.
The Oswaldo Negri Jr/AJ Allmendinger/John Pew/Matt McMurray line-up enter tomorrow’s race as favorites but are waiting for answers on two key questions. Will the new HPD-Ligier combination be reliable and will they be able to outpace the Daytona Prototypes on restarts during tomorrow’s race?
Four different manufacturers filled the top four spots in final practice with HPD leading Ford (Ganassi), Chevrolet (Action Express) and BMW (Starworks).
Ex-Formula 1 star Giancarlo Fisicella topped the times in GTLM ahead of Antonio Garcia’s Corvette. Porsche will be pleased with their performance, filling third through fifth places in the session. The German manufacturer struggled in qualifying, filling the final three GTLM spots on the grid.
Other class leaders included Jack Hawksworth in PC and Kuba Giermaziak in GTD.
