The new “great Dane”

January 25, 2014

michael_christensenSportscar fans are very familiar with ace Danish aces winning races thanks to Jan Magnussen and Tom Kristensen.

However, Porsche North America has unveiled a new “great Dane” in the form of Michael Christensen. He made his debut with CORE autosport at Petit Le Mans last year but now has a full-time ride alongside Pat Long in the No.912 entry. Christensen is actually driving with the original Porsche “odd couple” the compact Long and the ultra-tall Joerg Bergmeister.

michael_patChristensen has his sights set on following in his fellow Dane’s footsteps to target championship success. He actually knows Jan Magnussen quite well – but actually knows him as one of his best friend’s father. One of Christensen’s best friends is Jan’s son Kevin Magnussen who will make his Formula 1 debut this year for McLaren.

The next “great Dane” was actually in the car during the long red flag caused by the accident suffered by Matteo Malucelli and Memo Gidley. Christensen was one of many drivers to battle issues during the red flag period. While they pale into insignificance compared the problems suffered by Malucelli and Gidley – drivers had to turn off their cars; turning off the air conditioning, shutting down the fans and even the electronically controlled drink tube.

Basically, Christensen and many of his fellow drivers had to sit and quietly “roast” during the stoppage. Michelin Alley talked to the Danish driver after his debut TUDOR United SportsCar Championship stint.
