Daytona Prototypes (DP) are the centerpiece of the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series featuring teams like Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates, Starworks Motorsport, GAINSCO Bob Stallings and Wayne Taylor Racing.  Beginning in 2013, DPs will be combined with the ALMS P2 class at the top of the USCR ticket.

With the Le Mans-based P1 class heading into a high tech, factory oriented package beginning in 2014, the ALMS P1 class will not be part of the new series. As a result, ALMS P1 stalwarts Muscle Milk Pickett Racing Honda and the Dyson Racing Mazda teams are looking at new options for 2014. Dyson recently announced plans to switch to the P2 class for 2014.

The ALMS Le Mans-linked P2 class with cost capped cars such as the Extreme Speed and Level 5 Honda prototypes will be combined with DPs in the top class in 2014. The P2 cars will maintain a link to Le Mans providing a path for USCR entrants to enter the world’s premier endurance race.

The ALMS Prototype Challenge single specification class will continue in the USCR in 2014.

#The Cars (GT)

On the GT side of the paddock, the current ALMS GT class which features top teams from BMW, Corvette, Porsche, Ferrari and SRT Viper will be virtually untouched as the GT Le Mans (GTLM) class will retain all of the current class specs.

The current GRAND-AM Rolex Series GT cars will become the GT-Daytona (GTD) class and see adjusted performance levels and cost reduction moves. Engine air intake restrictors will be instituted and teams will be required to use single-lug, single-piece wheels. Adding to the class will be cars fitting the international GT3 specifications which will also be permitted with performance adjustments.
