That’s Competition

April 29, 2013

2013-04-19 at 09-56-25Lots of racing series boast of close competition. Many have it, albeit often the by-product of spec racing where competitors run identical cars, engines, aero, tires, fuel, etc.  So check out this breakdown of 2013 ALMS GT best laps at Long Beach. Remember, these are different cars, with different engines, aero, and tires.

Bottom line, the top five cars were separated by 0.074 of a second on a 79.5 second lap.  All ten cars were within 0.973 second. In percentage terms, the gap from first to fifth was one tenth of one percent. Or, in student final exam terms, if you got 993 points on a 1000 point final exam, you were fifth out of ten.
