Tandy and Porsche show wet pace

tandy_8_7_15Overall Le Mans winner Nick Tandy showed his speed in the wet this afternoon at Road America by not only being the fastest man in the GTLM class, but recording the fastest time of the day overall.

Both sessions were hit by rain at the classic Wisconsin circuit today but the entire GTLM class showed amazing pace – filling seven of the top ten spots on the timesheet and going faster than many prototype machines.

Tandy’s Le Mans-winning teammate Earl Bamber was second fastest to make it a 1-2 for Porsche North America in the GTLM class.

The duo were split by the Corvette Prototype of British ace Richard Westbrook who led the prototype class and was second fastest overall.

Behind Bamber was the BMW of Dirk Werner and Corvette Racing’s Tommy Milner.

roadam_8_7_15_11Corvette Racing’s championship leaders Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia (pictured right) were back on track in the C7.R which was heavily damaged at Le Mans when Magnussen suffered a stuck throttle.

The duo have driven the Larbre Competition Corvette that the French team uses in the FIA WEC in the past two TUDOR championship rounds. The Danish/Spanish combo recorded a third place finish at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in the most recent round.

Other class leaders today included Renger van der Zande in PC and Spencer Pumpelly in GTD.

Cars are on track again tomorrow at 9:15am with a dry track expected for the first time. Weather predictions call for a only a five per cent chance of rain.
