Strange but true!
October 1, 2011
68 minutes into the 14th running of Petit Le Mans – all bets would have been on Audi and Peugeot fighting it out at the front of the pack.
After yellow flags, varying pit stop strategies, contact with a GT car for Tom Kristensen’s Audi and a pair of 1 minute pit penalties for both Peugeots – not a single factory diesel featured in the top five on the timing screen.
Timo Bernhard’s Audi was the best of the factory giants in sixth place.
Sebring surprise giant-killers ORECA were at the head of the back with Nicolas Lapierre at the wheel – and they also have factory drivers Marc Gene and Nic Minassian still to drive.
Petit Le Mans typically is a wildly unpredictable race – 2011 is certainly proving that certainly hasn’t changed.
