Steppin’ Up-Corvette’s Milner Finds Top Step in 2012

November 16, 2012

Tommy Milner (in blue hat) celebrates his first ALMS championship with co-driver Oliver Gavin and Corvette Racing’s Gary Pratt.

Co-driving with three-time ALMS champion Oliver Gavin, Corvette Racing’s Tommy Milner had a breakout season in 2012.

Insiders often claim that after a young driver breaks through for a first major win, additional wins soon follow. That was certainly true for Milner.

After Gavin and Milner combined for Milner’s first ALMS win at Long Beach, the duo backed it up at Monterey, won again at Mid-Ohio and polished up the GT manufacturer, team and driver championships for Chevrolet, Corvette Racing and themselves with yet another win at VIR.

The manufacturer and team championships were also the first for Chevrolet and Corvette Racing since moving to the GT class from GT1.

Give Corvette Racing team leader Doug Fehan credit for the decision to place Milner with the superb Gavin for his second season with Corvette Racing in 2012.

With a strong car, co-driver Gavin and the veteran Pratt & Miller team in support, Milner’s race maturity and confidence blossomed in 2012.

With a 2011 Le Mans GT win in-hand, and now the 2012 ALMS GT driver co-championship, Milner, now age 26, moves into the top tier of American drivers.
