SRT Viper Cup Road Atlanta action
The first weekend of races in the SRT Viper Cup was recently held at Road Atlanta with Ben Keating sweeping both races. Keating won Saturday’s timed 25-minute race in impressive fashion.
For Sunday’s second race, a new rule reverses the starting grid from Saturday’s finish. Starting from the rear of the field, Keating cut the deficit in half by lap five and was second by lap 13. He eventually took the lead on lap 16 and took the checkers at race end.
After the race, the Chief Stewart ruled contact between Keating and Trevor Nelson was avoidable and Keating lost 32 points in the season standings. That leaves him five behind current leader Dave Pintaric, the runner-up to Keating in both races.
The SRT Viper Cup races also had two celebrity participants – author Burt Levy and pro wrestler and actor, Bill Goldberg. The celebrities winnings were donated to the official charity of the series – the National Breast Cancer Coalition.
Levy finished 8th and 9th while Goldberg placed 12th in both races.
The next SRT Viper Cup race will be held May 12-13 at Road America.
