SRT takes win and points lead at COTA
The SRT Motorsports team swept the top places in the GTLM class during the Lone Star Le Mans at the Circuit of The Americas saturday with the #93 Dodge Viper SRT of Jonathan Bomarito and Kuno Wittmer edging out teammates Marc Goossens and Dominik Farnbacher in the #91 Dodge Viper SRT.
With the win Bomarito and Wittmer take over the Championship standings by seven points over Antonio Garcia who finished ninth in class with co-driver Jan Magnussen.
The #912 Porsche 911 RSR of Patrick Long and Michael Christensen hopped onto the last step of the podium which helped dampen the heartbreak the Porsche North America team suffered after their #911 car had to withdraw from the race while holding a 36 second lead.
In the prototype class, the battle came down to the wire with a three-way fight between Scott Pruett, Joao Barbosa and Alex Brundle. At the checkered flag it was the #01 Ganassi Ford EcoBoost/Riley of Pruett and Memo Rojas taking the win ahead of Brundle and Gustavo Yacaman in the Oak Racing #42 prototype. Championship leaders Barbosa and Christian Fittipaldi placed third in their #5 Action Express Corvette DP.
8Star Motorsports with drivers Sean Rayhall and Luis Diaz came out victorious in the PC class ahead of the #54 CORE Autosport car of Jon Bennett and Colin Braun who fought back from a penalty to finish second and clinch the PC Driver Championship. The #8 Starworks Motorsport car of Mirco Schultis and Renger van der Zande came in third.
The pairing of Jeroen Bleekemolen and Ben Keating came away with the win in the GTD class in their #33 Dodge Viper SRT. The #44 Magnus Racing Porsche 911 GT America of Andy Lally and John Potter and the #300 Turner Motorsport BMZ Z4 of Dane Cameron and Markus Palttala completed the GTD podium.
