Shank’s HPD leads again
Shank’s HPD leads again
This year’s Rolex 24 at Daytona is a complete sea-change for Michael Shank Racing. After years of competition in Daytona Prototype equipment, the team has switched to a Le Mans-style P2 prototype and shown instant outstanding pace.
For the second session in a row, Oswaldo Negri Jr topped the timesheet in the prototype field. Negri’s No.60 HPD-powered Ligier was the only car to break the 1 minute, 40 second bracket in both sessions. He was fastest at 1:39.633 in the first practice and repeated the performance in the afternoon with a best time of 1:39.629.
Joao Barbosa was second fastest aboard the championship and Rolex 24 At Daytona-winning No.5 entry from Action Express Racing.
Olivier Pla was third fastest for Krohn Racing in their distinctive green Judd-powered Ligier. The Frenchman held the top spot early in the session before Joao Barbosa and then Negri took over.
Gianmaria Bruni set the pace in the GTLM class with the visiting European squad AF Corse. The Ferrari driver outpaced the “locals” with his lap of 1:44.273.
Corvette Racing showed strong speed by being second and third in the session – Oliver Gavin leading Jan Magnussen.
