Senna makes sportscar debut
After 46 starts in Formula 1, Brazilian Bruno Senna has moved into sportscars with his debut for Aston Martin Racing this weekend alongside Darren Turner and Stefan Mucke.
The nephew of Grand Prix great, Ayrton Senna, the 29-year-old drove for Williams in Formula 1 last year but will contest the World Endurance Championship aboard the Gulf-sponsored Aston Martin in 2013.
However, his Sebring debut was put into doubt when he was struck down with a “stomach bug” during the week. He has recovered and will will climb aboard the No.97 Aston later today.
Unfortunately, the car suffered a radiator problem early in the race and is now 17 laps off the GT lead after a long delay.
“I’m enjoying myself here very much and it is super competitive. It is the first race for me this year so I’m trying to give these guys my best,” Senna said.
“Unfortunately, I haven’t been particularly well with my health, but today I feel human again so hopefully we can get back from our problems and have a good result.
Senna has made an impressive debut since transitioning from Formula 1 to the Aston Martin Vantage GTE sportscar.
“Every car is a race car and you have to get into it, but the guys have helped me a lot to understand the car and help set it up. That has helped me learn much faster.”
