Sebring testing kicks off
Clear, sunny but cool temperatures and windy conditions greeted the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship teams when the track opened this morning for the official IMSA Sebring test.
Fist out were the defending race champions for Action Express, but as the morning unfolded, 34 of the teams took to the 3.7 mile circuit.
Michelin engineers reported ambient temperatures were 56 degrees and track temperatures of 60 degrees at mid-morning.
Dane Cameron and Filipe Albuquerque led an Action Express Corvette DP 1-2 in the session. They were followed by the ESM Honda of Pipo Derani an the Oreca-Nissan of Nicolas Lapierre
Colin Braun topped the PC times.
BMW Team RLL’s Bill Auberlen led Risi Ferrari’s Toni Vilander, Porsche North America’s Frederic Makowiecki, Ford’s Ryan Briscoe and Sebastian Bourdais.
The big news of the morning was the Ford Performance announcement that Scott Dixon will join Ryan Briscoe and Richard Westbrook aboard the No. 67 Ford GT for the Sebring race. Minutes later, Dixon appeared and was soon aboard the car for the second half of the morning session.
Chip Ganassi Racing is the only GTLM team here with two cars as Ford Performance looks to continue development of the Ford GT. The BMW Team RLL, Porsche North America, and Risi Competitizione Ferrari and teams are each here with single cars.
