Sebring action kicks into high gear

March 18, 2016

sebring_thurs_gal1_14Teams in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship have one final practice session this morning before qualifying for tomorrow’s Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.

Three practice sessions were run yesterday in warm conditions with track temperatures soaring to as high as 122 degrees fahrenheit.

The coolest track temperature during the day was still hotter than the highest temp seen at the recent official IMSA test.

Warm but cloudy conditions will greet the teams today for the final practice session at 10:15am before qualifying begins at 3:30pm this afternoon.

Tomorrow could be a different story however. Scattered thunderstorms are forecast in the area from 2:00pm tomorrow and are expected to continue through to 2:00am on Sunday morning – well past the checkered flag for the 64th running of the history Sebring event.

“If it rains here on Saturday it is going to treacherous,” Corvette Raicng’s Olivier Gavin said.

“Coming out of turn 17 through to turn one is super bumpy and worse with water and then you have that big painted area at the start-finish line is treacherous and tricky.”

davide_1400Risi Competizione Sebring rookie Davide Rigon is unsure what to expect if the rain arrives.

“We have no idea what to expect so it will be a bit difficult for us,” Rigon said.

“It will take a little more time to get used to the track, the water and working out where is the correct line.

“It will be very tough because every lap the track can change.”
