Sebring: 6 Hour Update – Porsche at the front
At the half way point of the 12 Hours of Sebring, Porsche held the top spot with it’s No.911 entry but the battle royale in the GTLM class looks set to go right down to the wire.
With Patrick Pilet at the wheel, the No.911 Porsche led over Patrick Long in the Falken Porsche. However, not long after a full course yellow restart which went green just after half way, Rolex 25 at Daytona winner Antonio Garcia snuck underneath Long entering turn 1.
Garcia, Jan Magnussen and Ryan Briscoe are in fightback mode after Briscoe suffered a spin after suffering traction control issues exiting the hairpin – dropping him to the back of the GTLM class pack.
The Daytona-winning trio quickly put the incident behind them to claw their way back into contention. The No.4 Corvette sat in fourth place ahead of the pole winning No.912 Porsche which was delayed with a windshield issue earlier in the race.
The No.25 BMW was forced behind the wall and back to the paddock to repair a suspension issue.
At the front of the pack overall Daytona winner Scott Dixon held the top spot for Chip Ganassi Racing in his Ford Ecoboost-powered Daytona Prototype.
While the Chevrolets had dominated the first half of the race, Dixon held the top spot after six hours with Richard Westbook’s Visit Florida entry in second over Joao Barbosa in third.
Although one lap down, Johannes van Overbeek held fourth as the best-placed Le Mans P2-style entry.
Other class leaders included Tom Kimber-Smith’s PC machine which remarkably sat in sixth place overall and has run as high as fifth. The No.52 PC entry was only a single lap down compared to the overall race leader.
In GT Daytona we had four different brands in the top four spots – Jeroen Bleekemolen’s Viper leading Ian James’ Porsche, Christina Nielsen’s Aston Martin and Christopher Haase’s Audi.
