Sebring: 3 Hour Update – Bourdais leads

March 21, 2015

racestartIndyCar ace Sebastien Bourdais leads the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring at the 1/4 race distance with the Daytona Prototype driver taking over the lead as Le Mans P2-style rivals stuck trouble.

Fellow Frenchman Olivier Pla dominated the opening stint. After only making an average start, he swept around the outside of Ryan Dalziel’s Patrón Racing ESM HPD to grab the lead in turn one on the opening lap.

Pla set the fastest lap of the race at 1:52.261 – nearly half a second quicker than anybody else on track.

The Krohn Racing squad lost time after team boss Tracy Krohn got in the car after the first stop and then the team suffered several delays with an exhaust issue.

The similar Ligier P2 of Ozz Negri suffered a large crash after taking too much kerb while trying to pass the No.17 Porsche and suffered a heavy impact.

Patrón Racing ESM’s HPD Honda ran second early with Ryan Dalziel. After the three-hour mark, the No.1 machine was fourth with David Heinemeier Hansson at wheel

Michael Valiente was second after three hours with Max Papis in third.

In the GTLM ranks, Porsche took turns at the lead. Fred Makowiecki led early before Nick Tandy took over the lead during one of the pit stops.

Corvette Racing’s Antonio Garcia held second before swapping over to Ryan Briscoe. Just after the three-hour mark Briscoe suffered a spin which push him back down the field.

Other leaders at the three-hour mark included Bruno Junqueira in PC and Ben Keating aboard the GT Daytona Viper.
