Rolex 24 flashback
Take a look back at the Rolex 24 at Daytona – the opening round of the new TUDOR United SportsCar Championship. Porsche North America teamed with Michelin to take victory in the GT Le Mans class – winning on debut in their first race as a factory team.
Porsche factory drivers Richard Lietz, Nick Tandy and Patrick Pilet took the win with BMW’s Bill Auberlen, Andy Priaulx, Joey Hand and Maxime Martin taking second. The SRT Viper squad took third with Dominik Farnbacher, Marc Goossens and Ryan Hunter-Reay behind the wheel.
For Porsche, the most successful manufacturer in the history of the Rolex 24, it was the company’s 76th class-win to accompany the 22 overall wins at the historic event. The victory by Porsche North America in its debut as a factory program is the 40th class-win for a Porsche 911-based racecar in the 52nd running of the United State’s premier 24-hour race.
The victory at Daytona was Michelin’s first since taking the overall win with the Dodge Viper team in 2000.
