ROAR Media Day Thursday Photos

Here’s a link to photos from Thursday’s media day at Daytona International Speedway. The Photo Feed will be updated throughout this weekend from this weekend’s IMSA kickoff event.

IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship teams and drivers went through the media gauntlet with an array of photos, videos, and interviews with various media outlets.

One incredible photo occurred almost by chance earlier Thursday (top photo: Michelin North America). While conducting a planned shoot, two-time CART series champion Alex Zanardi found himself reunited with longtime friends Rubens Barrichello and Fernando Alonso.

Two-time Formula 1 World Champion Alonso has recently called time – at least temporarily – on his F1 career. Meanwhile Barrichello’s open-wheel career spanned two decades in F1 and IndyCar from 1993 through 2012.

Both Alonso and Barrichello have past experience in the Rolex 24 at Daytona. However, Zanardi makes his debut in a BMW Team RLL M8 GTE at this year’s race.

Zanardi’s recovery story and comeback since his accident in a 2001 CART race in Germany that cost him his legs is well chronicled. The technology that BMW has developed to allow him to drive his No. 24 car this race on the steering wheel is quite remarkable. There is plenty more to come on this story.
