Road America Half Way Point
Road America Half Way Point
Muscle Milk Aston Martin Racing and Klaus Graf held an 18.5 second lead over championship rivals Dyson Racing and Guy Smith as the Road Race Showcase at Road America reached the half way point.
At the last round of pit stops, Graf and the Aston Martin team entered the pits second and came out in the lead upon which they have continued to stretch.
Guy Smith moved the Dyson Mazda into second in a messy restart. Smith nearly ran into the back of teammate Humaid Al Masaood who had to brake suddenly when the Ford GT of David Murry brought the field back to the green quite slowly – causing some chaos behind him.
Smith clipped the back of Al Masaood and had to take to the grass in avoidance. The day for the #20 Dyson ended soon after with an off track excursion for Al Masaood followed by a long pit stop which resulted in the car being retired.
Oliver Gavin and Corvette Racing fought back from his early spin with the Risi Ferrari to pounce on the leading BMW of Joey Hand in traffic eight minutes before the half way point. The Risi Ferrari of Toni Vilander remained in second.
The Genoa Racing LMPC machine continued its trouble-free run with Elton Julian behind the wheel. Pole winner Butch Leitzinger was second with the CORE motorsport machines a lap adrift with Ricardo Gonzalez leading Jon Bennett.
