Risi to miss Canada trip

July 12, 2013

2013-07-05 at 14-56-18After a heavy crash at Lime Rock Park, Risi Competizione will be missing in action from the next round of the ALMS championship at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Canada next week.

The Houston-based team ended the Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park with a severely damaged Ferrari 458 Italia, and the extent of the repairs necessary to return the GT car to a full race-ready condition is too great for the time available.

Instead of traveling direct from Connecticut to Canada, the team has returned to its base where the car has been stripped down and is now awaiting parts from Michelotto in Italy.

While trying to pass a GTC car, Matteo Malucelli ended up on the grass on the back straight at Lime Rock and was a passenger as the car slid straight through the chicane – making heavy impact and also severely damaging the Alex Job Racing GTC Porsche of Jeroen Bleekemolen.

“It is extremely unfortunate we have found ourselves in this position, and I am also conscious that regretfully other competitors became the innocent victim of the Lime Rock incident,” Giuseppe Risi said.

“We are all aware that – unfortunate as they are – these things happen. Just as we are also aware that Canadian Tire Motorsport Park is not somewhere you go to race unless you are 100% prepared and ready. We will return ready to compete at Road America in August, and wish all our fellow ALMS entrants a safe event in Canada.”
