This is the third in a five-part GT2 class preview series.
To win a major endurance race in sports car racing, the path to victory in the GT2 category goes through Risi Competizione. The sports car stalwarts, based out of Houston and run by Giuseppe Risi, are riding on the waves of five consecutive major endurance race victories – the 2008 24 Hours of Le Mans and Petit Le Mans, and a sweep of the 12 Hours of Sebring, Le Mans, and Petit in 2009.
Leading the charge for a sixth consecutive win is the team’s red No. 62 Ferrari F430 GT. Jaime Melo has won a GT2 class title in addition to the endurance wins, and is joined by Gianmaria Bruni and Pierre Kaffer in the team’s flagship entry.
Additionally, the team fields a second car in the endurance events for Krohn Racing, driven by Tracy Krohn, Nic Jonsson and Eric van de Poele. It’s done well at Le Mans, finishing on the podium in two of the last three runnings, and should not be counted out for a top-three result this weekend.
