The right tire at the right time
The right tire at the right time
What tire to use when, what pressures to run and what suspension settings to use are all part of the challenge at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.
Michelin is the technical partner of choice for the Aston Martin Racing, BMW Team RLL, Corvette Racing, Porsche North America and Risi Cometizione factory-linked teams. The GTLM class is the only class here permitting open tire competition.
Michelin technical director Ken Payne indicates that while the Michelin medium compound/warm temperature tire is the race choice for most of the Michelin technical partner teams, the Michelin medium/cool option is the preferred option for at least two teams.
Some Michelin teams may look to switch to the softer compound Michelin tires last in the race when temperatures drop. Teams must start the race on their qualifying tires. Most teams will single stint tires due to the heat as, unlike Le Mans; there is little advantage to double stints under the IMSA pit rules.
