Rain wreaked havoc on the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship field for night practice at Petit Le Mans tonight with a torrential downpour restricting laps and sending the Michael Shank Racing crew into overdrive to try to repair their Ligier.

Oz Negri had led the timesheets earlier in the day at Road Atlanta but John Pew lost control of the No.60 machine coming off the final turn and had a heavy impact with the pit wall – damaging both the left and right hand side.

The team are now in a race against time to try to repair the machine which suffered tub damage. The Shank team have turned to the nearby Elan Motorsport Technologies to try to help repair the machine.

Jordan Taylor topped the times in the prototype class but only completed 11 laps aboard his Corvette. Christian Fittipaldi was second fastest for Action Express which sent out IndyCar ace Sebastien Bourdais for some late laps in the 90 minute session when rain begain to ease.

In the GTLM ranks it was Porsche to the fore again with Wolf Henzler leading Fred Makowiecki and Richard Lietz. Both BMW and Corvette only did a handful of laps with both of their cars – the No.25 BMW actually not going out the in session.

In GTD ranks Andy Lally was the leading “swimmer” – the No.44 was 4th fastest but completed 27 laps during the session (the most of any car in the field). Jeroen Bleekemolen’s Viper was fastest but only recorded eight laps before calling it a night.

In the PC class, Renger van der Zande led the times from Andrew Palmer.

Cars are back on track at 10:05am Friday morning for final practice, however, more rain is expected to drench the Road Atlanta track throughout the day.
