Racing is in the Wittmer family blood

kuno&patrick_2For Kuno Wittmer, ending up as a racing driver was just a matter of time as he followed in the footsteps of his Father and Grandfather.

The Dodge Viper driver’s father Patrick put Kuno in a kart one night for the first time – three wins on debut showed there may be some talent in the bloodline.

A visit to the Jim Russell school highlighted that talent and the young Wittmer was soon representing Canada in the Russell School’s international finals at Donington Park, UK, at age 16

“The motorsports blood flows deep in our family,” Wittmer said.

“I still remember getting my first ATV and still remember riding it around until I was eight or nine, then I got a new one. I rode those for quite a while but my Grandfather was a five-time rally champion and my father was a champion in the old Michelin Honda days.

“There is a lot of heritage there and once I turned 15 there was no doubt that once a driving license came around, a racing license was next to come. It was almost like a mandate for our family and I’d to keep it going for many generations.”

But it is not just Kuno at the wheel. His younger brother Nick followed in his footsteps and now races in the Canadian Touring Car Championship along with one of the young Wittmer twins, Karl Wittmer.
