Qualifying battle looms at Watkins Glen
Teams have completed their final practice session in preparation for this afternoon’s qualifying session for the 6 Hours of Watkins Glen.
Daytona and Sebring winners Patrón ESM Racing were fastest in the prototype ranks this morning with Pipo Derani at the wheel. The No.55 Mazda was second fastest driving by Jonathan Bomarito.
The Le Mans-style P2 machines swept the top three spots with Ozz Negri putting his Ligier Honda third on the timesheet.
In GTLM Richard Westbrook was flying solo aboard his No.67 Ford with his teammate Ryan Briscoe forced to rush home to Connecticut for the birth of his second child yesterday.
The Ganassi Ford driver made it home in time but will be back for tomorrow’s race.
Three different brands filled the top three spots in GTLM. Second fastest was the BMW or Dirk Werner with Risi Competizione’s Toni Villander third fastest.
Other fast men included Colin Braun in PC and Lawson Aschenbach in GTD.
Qualifying is up next with GTD first up at 3:40pm
