Prototype battles looming large after Prototype qualifying
Tomorrow’s Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge is a looming as a great prototype battle with both the P1 and LMPC classes fighting out a close fought qualifying session today.
Dyson Racing backed up their 2010 victory here at Mid-Ohio when pole position today for Guy Smith on board his Mazda-powered Lola. Smith was only .165 of a second faster than Muscle Milk Racing’s Klaus Graf aboard his Aston Martin.
Graf and Lucas Luhr won the previous round of the championship at Mosport in Canada and are in fightback mode in the championship after dropping points with a DNF at the opening round at Sebring. The pair of Germans have responded with dominant wins at two of the three races held since.
The second Dyson Racing car of Steven Kane and Humaid Al Masaood were third fastest in P1.
Gunnar Jeannette scored the pole for CORE autosport in the LMPC class – just beating Mosport pole winner Kyle Marcelli of Intersport Racing by .338 of a second.
Third fastest was the father and son team of Jon and Clint Field – the duo driving together in the LMPC class for the first time.
Jeannette – who leads the LMPC championship with teammate Ricardo Gonzalez – spoke to Michelin Alley today after scoring his second pole of the season.
