The Porsche North America squad set the pace in Road America yesterday and have continued to top the timesheet in this morning’s first dry session.
Heavy rain struck Elkhart Lake yesterday with Le Mans winner Nick Tandy actually setting the overall fastest time of the day.
Dry conditions emerged for the first time pushing the Prototype machines back to the head of the timesheet but the GTLM class was still lead by the Porsche duo – Tandy’s teammate Patrick Pilet setting the fastest time ahead of Jorg Bergmeister.
Bill Auberlen was third fastest for BMW while the championship leading No.3 Corvette of Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen was fourth fastest.
In the prototype ranks Oz Negri put the Michael Shank Racing P2-style prototype to the top of the times with a .7 of a second gap to Joao Barbosa and Scott Pruett.
Other class leaders included Colin Braun from Connor Daly and Tom Kimber-Smith in PC and Andy Lally ahead of Markus Palttala and Kuno Wittmer.
Cars are back on track this afternoon from 3:35 for qualifying with GTD up first followed by GTLM, PC and the Prototype class.
