The Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Michelin completed its second year of competition last weekend. The fastest-growing single-make series in North America had more than 25 drivers racing at some of Canada’s marque motorsports events in 2012.

The Porsche GT3 Cup car is among the most widely raced cars in North America and an excellent car for developing new drivers. The series splits the field into categories based on the model year of the Porsche GT3 Cup car. Cars built in 2010-2012 fall into the Platinum Cup, while the Gold Cup is for Porsches built from mid-2005 to 2009, and Silver Cup for Porsches built from 2002 to mid-2005.

Jean-Frederic Laberge (SpeedMerchants) entered the last race weekend at Calabogie Motorsports Park third in the Platinum Cup championship but won both races to claim the Driver and Team Championship.

The SpeedMerchants team also would be victorious in the Gold Cup as Bruce Gregory’s two second place finishes clinched the Driver and Team Championships.

Robert Seitz (6th Gear Racing) won the championships in the Silver Cup. Seitz has won 13 of the 14 Silver Cup races in the two years of competition.

Plans have already begun for the 2013 season as Platinum Cup competitors are ordering cars and a strong field of drivers is expected for the 2013 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Michelin.
