Porsche goes fastest at Lime Rock

July 21, 2017

The No. 912 Porsche 911 RSR has done what no other car has managed this weekend and set a time faster than last year’s pole time at Lime Rock Park.

Gianmaria Bruni turned the fastest time of the session, a 0:50.601, on his 49th lap, during the heat of the day. The ambient temperature peaked at 93F/34C, and track temp hit 130F/54C during the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship second practice.

Second place went to Dirk Mueller, backing up his first place performance from the session prior, in the No. 66 Ford 67. Mueller was a full 0.429 seconds behind Bruni on the short Lime Rock track.

GTLM championship leaders Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia came third in the No. 3 Corvette C7.R, ahead of John Edwards in the No. 24 BMW M6 GTLM.

Porsche’s second car, the No. 911, just squeaked into the top five in the session, with Dirk Werner setting a 0:51.136.

Bill Auberlen finished seventh in the No. 25 BMW, with Tommy Milner and the No. 4 Corvette team bringing up the rear of the field.

Despite Bruni’s dominant performance in the session, the rest of the field was very competitive. Positions two through eight were separated by just 0.178 of a second.

Behind Milner, Bryan Sellers and Madison Snow led in GTD in the Lamborghini Huracan GT3.

The next on track IMSA GTLM action from Lime Rock Park is qualifying at 5:40 PM ET.
