Porsche fastest in wet third practice

A soggy morning greeted teams at Watkins Glen International when the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTLM class took to the track for the third practice session today.

Porsche found themselves first and last on the timesheets. The No. 912 took first with a time of 1:54.422, set by Laurens Vanthoor, and the No. 911 eighth in class after attempting to turn a time on slicks in the very damp session.

Antonio Garcia slotted the No. 3 Corvette Racing machine in second and Ryan Briscoe in the No. 67 Ford GT third, both more than a second off the time set by Vanthoor.

The No. 66 Ford GT and No. 4 Corvette C7.R rounded out the top five in class, and the pair of BMW M6 cars sixth and seventh with lap times less than two hundredths of a second apart in the wet.

There is a 35% chance of the rain returning during GTLM qualifying for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen at 12:05 PM and a 40% chance for the race on Sunday.

In the Prototype class, it was Olivier Pla on top in the No. 52 Ligier LMP2. Kyle Masson took first in Prototype Challenge in the jumbled session, which saw him set a faster lap time than the championship leading No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac DPi Prototype.

Fastest in GTD was Tristan Vautier in the SunEnergy1 No. 75 Mercedes AMG GT3.
