Porsche and Ferrari score poles at COTA

September 15, 2017

Porsche has scored the pole for tomorrow’s Six Hours of COTA with Nick Tandy and Neel Jani combining to put the No. 1 Porsche 919 on the top spot.

Tandy and Jani’s combined average lap was 1 minute, 44.741 seconds – .253 of a second ahead of teammates Earl Bamber and Timo Bernhard.

Toyota took third and fourth with the No. 8 outpacing Toyota’s No. 7 entry by 7/10ths of a second.

“It is awesome to be back racing in the US, it is a place that I certainly feel at home in,” Tandy said.

“Austin is a great place and COTA is a great track – it is really enjoyable to drive here in the LM P1 car. We’re starting the weekend with both cars on the front row and our car on pole.

“It is a pretty good feeling and I am looking forward to the race tomorrow.”

In GTE-Pro Sam Bird and Davide Rigon combined to take their AF Corse Ferrari to the top of the timesheet.

Bird is looking forward to repeating his strong US form again tomorrow. The Brit took both victories in New York in July when the FIA Formula E championship came to America.

The Ferrari duo outpaced the No. 67 Ford of Harry Ticknell and Andy Priaulx with Aston Martin Racing’s No. 95 in third spot.

Other class winners included the No. 36 Signatech Alpine entry in LMP2 and Paul Dalla Lana and Pedro Lamy in GTE-Am for Aston Martin.

Tomorrow’s six-hour race kicks off at 12:00noon.
