FordDP01-02_RD43091The cars that won pole positions in TUDOR series qualifying on Friday afternoon kept the heat on their competition in Saturday morning’s 20-minute warm-up session.

Joey Hand had the best overall lap at 1:57.862 in Ganassi Racing’s Riley-Ford DP. The cooler conditions at 8:00 a.m. helped Hand to run a quicker lap than teammate Scott Pruett’s pole-winning 1:58.441 in the mid-day heat at Circuit of the Americas.

Ozz Negri, second in Prototype qualifying in Michael Shank Racing’s Ligier-Honda P2, was also second quickest in the warm-up. Negri was .452 seconds behind the Hand-Pruett Prototype.

Porsche911-03_RD42061GT Le Mans points leader Patrick Pilet reprised his pole-winning performance in the No. 911 Porsche 911 RSR, recording the quickest time in the class at 2:04.674, three-tenths of a second slower than his pole-winning lap.

The German marques continued their domination of the GTLM division, with Bill Auberlen’s BMW second, Joerg Bergmeister’s Porsche third, and John Edwards’ BMW fourth.

Christopher Haase was quickest in the GT Daytona category in the No. 48 Paul Miller Racing Audi R8 LMS that Dion von Moltke drove to the GTD pole with a best lap of 2:11.097. Haase’s 2:09.655 in the warm-up was 1.44 seconds quicker than von Moltke’s pole-winning lap in Friday’s 96-degree heat.

The only pole-winning car that did not post the quickest time in warm-up was RSR Racing’s No. 11 Oreca, which ended up fourth in the Prototype Challenge class this morning. The quickest PC entry was Renger van der Zande in the No. 8 Starworks Motorsports Oreca FLM09.

With the preliminaries now completed, the next order of business is the two-hour, 40-minute Lone Star Le Mans race that will start at 11:35 a.m. local time.
