Peugeot paced Friday morning’s one-hour practice session at Petit Le Mans with a 1-2 standing for their two Peugeot 908 HDi FAP diesels. Again, the No. 08 led the timesheets with the No. 07 in second, with fastest times of 1:07.723 and 1:08.210, respectively.
Pedro Lamy and Anthony Davidson were the fastest drivers in each car. Davidson was able to return to the track today after an off course incident toward the end of last night’s session.
Both of the Audi R15 Plus TDIs trailed by more than two seconds, and the No. 7 Audi driven by Dindo Capello returned to the pits on the back of a flatbed after an off at the esses. The car sustained damage but should be repaired by this afternoon’s qualifying.
Not as fortunate was the debuting No. 10 ACS Express Racing Doran Ford GT-R in the GT2 class. The team with the driver lineup of Boris Said, Townsend Bell and Brandon Davis faces the distinct possibility of not starting Saturday’s race, scheduled to be their first ALMS start.
Davis lost control in the esses and hit the concrete barrier, which severely damaged the left side of the car. While there are still a little more than 24 hours until the start of Saturday’s race, it is doubtful whether the car can be repaired.
Other class leaders were Klaus Graf for Muscle Milk Team CytoSport in P2, Jan Magnussen in a Corvette in GT2, and Challenge class leaders Luis Diaz (LMPC, PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports) and Jeroen Bleekemolen (GTC, Black Swan).
Corvette led the 17-car GT2 pack as Jan Magnussen in the No. 4 Corvette ZR1 set the fastest lap of the session on his last lap, 1:19.498. Top five in class after the Corvette were the No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari F430 GT, the No. 90 Rahal Letterman BMW M3, the No. 61 Risi Ferrari and the No. 3 Corvette.
Porsche’s Hybrid fell in line after eight of the GT2 cars at 1:20.635, only a little more than one second off the GT2 leaders.
