Peugeot on the pace
Peugeot set the pace in the opening practice at Petit Le Mans this morning – a session delayed and subsequently extended after a crash by the No.11 JDX racing Porsche.
Stephane Sarrazin stopped the clocks at 1:09.603 seconds – just .124 of a second faster than 2010 ALMS champ, Simon Pagenaud.
Audi were third and fourth fastest with Timo Bernhard heading Dindo Capello.
Guy Smith was fatest of the regular ALMS car and also the fastest non-diesel entry. Smith turned a lap of 1:12.118 in the car he will share with team boss Chris Dyson.
Marino Franchitti returned to the ALMS paddock in style by being fastest in his first official session for Level 5 Motorsport. The Scottish 2010 LMP2 Petit Le Mans winner was nearly a second clear of Lucas Ordonez in the Oreca Nissan.
In LMPC, Rudy Junco showed he is not just a third driver fill-in for CORE autosport. He was fastest in the session – doing his best to get teammates Gunnar Jeannette and Ricardo Gonzelz back in title contention.
LMPC points leader Eric Lux was third fastest for Genoa Racing.
Risi Competizione continued their strong form from yesterday – Toni Vilander fastest again today at 1:20.205 – just ahad of Dirk Mueller’s BMW.
The cars are expected back on track at 2:55pm this afternoon.
