Two days of testing are in the books at Sebring International Raceway, in preparation for the opening round of the 2011 American Le Mans Series season and 2011 Intercontinental Le Mans Cup.
Peugeot set the fastest time overall and in LMP1, even though Audi was quickest in three of four total sessions. Monday featured two four-hour sessions, Tuesday two one-hour sessions.
The two pairs of diesel prototypes consistently lapped the 3.7-mile, 17-turn road course between 1:47 and 1:49, with the No. 8 Peugeot 908 setting the bar in the Monday morning session at 1:47.678. Audi’s quickest was 1:47.919, set by the No. 2 R15 “Plus Plus” TDI in Monday’s afternoon session.
Behind them, the Highcroft HPD and Muscle Milk Aston Martin Lola coupe traded best of the gasoline-powered cars. Each runs on E-10 ethanol.
In GT, BMW was quickest on Monday with a 2:01.562, with the No. 04 Corvette and No. 51 AF Corse Ferrari F430 GT leading the class in the two Tuesday sessions. The Corvette’s best was only a 2:02.043 and the AF Corse car, an ILMC entrant being driven by three 2010 Risi Competizione pilots, Giancarlo Fisichella, Gianmaria Bruni and Pierre Kaffer, at a 2:01.873.
Besides the BMWs, Corvettes and Ferraris, a stacked GT field also includes efforts from Porsche, Ford, Panoz, Jaguar and Lamborghini.
Other class leaders after the times from Monday and Tuesday were combined included:
• LMP2: No. 26 Signatech Oreca 03 Nissan (1:55.626, Monday second session)
• LMPC: No. 005 CORE Autosport Oreca FLM09 (1:55.020, Monday first session)
• GTE AM: No. 57 Krohn Racing Ferrari F430 GT (2:03.217, Monday first session)
• GTC: No. 066 TRG Porsche GT3 Cup (2:05.872, Monday first session)
