The last two years, Petit Le Mans practice has thrown a dent into Patron Highcroft Racing’s plans, but each time the crew has responded heroically from bad accidents. Last year, the PHR crew built an entire new Acura ARX 02-a tub from scratch after Scott Sharp’s accident, and the team rebounded to gather valuable points en route to its first series championship.
Now, armed with the dependable and veteran HPD ARX 01-c, David Brabham and Simon Pagenaud can clinch the team’s second straight title at Petit. The duo has a 16-point lead over Klaus Graf of Muscle Milk Team CytoSport, and provided they can make it through 70 percent of the race, they should be well on their way. Additionally, Petit is a chance to score a class win in P2 after running well but encountering late mechanical gremlins at the two other endurance races this season, Sebring and Le Mans.
