Corvette’s role in this year’s Petit Le Mans is different than in past years, as they are cast in the role of “spoilers.” One of the ALMS’s most successful teams in the series history enters the last race of the 2010 season without yet making an appearance in victory lane. But if their performance at the last endurance race was any indication, expect to see the yellow ZR1s figuring into the class win.
A 1-2 start at the 24 Hours of Le Mans was punctuated with leading most of the race in class, before encountering the bad luck of over-ambition and mechanical gremlins. The leading Corvette in class crashed shortly after the overall leading Peugeot made a daring maneuver and the second Corvette had a rare engine failure. A win for either car, with revised driver lineups as of the last race at Mosport, would provide a satisfying end to a challenging first full season in the highly competitive GT(2) class.
