Paul Newman’s amazing career celebrated
He was a Hollywood legend but to race fans young and old, Paul Newman is held in even higher esteem for his efforts behind wheel.
WINNING: The Racing Life of Paul Newman, is a new documentary on the Academy Award® winning actor and philanthropist’s storied 35-year racing career. The first premiere was held last night in Los Angeles.
WINNING was directed by Adam Carolla and co-directed by Nate Adams. Featured in the film along with Newman are Joanne Woodward, Robert Redford, Robert Wagner, Patrick Dempsey, Jay Leno, Mario Andretti, Michael Andretti, Bob Sharp, Sebastien Bourdais, Graham Rahal and Tom Cruise.
The star-studded premiere was attended by a host of motorsport stars including IndyCar’s Graham Rahal, Sebastian Bourdais, Justin Wilson (all former drivers for Newman-Haas Racing).
Newman’s racing career, which spanned thirty-five years, nearly sidelined his acting career. He won one Oscar as an actor, but amassed four national championships as a driver and eight championships as a team owner. He never stopped racing, winning his last race at the age of 82.
Last night’s premiere was sponsored by Nissan with all proceeds from screening ticket sales will benefit Racing for Cancer and The Indy Family Foundation. Newman spent much of racing career aboard Datsun and Nissan sportscars. A further screening will be staged in Indianapolis on May 22 in conjunction with the Indianapolis 500.
