P2 machines lead Friday morning
After Action Express Racing set the pace in testing at Sebring International Raceway yesterday, the LM P2 machines of Michael Shank Racing and newcomers DragonSpeed jumped to the top of the times on Friday morning.
Both the Honda-powered Ligier of Shank and DragonSpeed’s Nissan-powered Oreca recorded times faster than the 1:51.965 recorded by the championship-winning Action Express No.5 entry on Friday.
This year the Shank entry features last year’s Sebring pole winner Olivier Pla who scored the quickest time in qualifying last year for Krohn Racing.
The second fastest time for Elton Julian-owned DragonSpeed was a strong debut for the team which is new to prototype racingin 2016. Their driving line-up features former factory Peugeot star Nic Minassian and ex-Toyota LM P1 driver Nicolas Lapierre.
Lapierre is a former winner at Sebring, taking the win in 2011 with Team Oreca’s LMP1 Peugeot with Olivier Panis and current Audi LM P1 star Loïc Duval.
For the third session in a row BMW USA Racing’s sole test machine topped the times in the GTLM class. The No.25 BMW got down to 1:58.751 – fractionally quicker than yesterday’s quick time set by Bill Auberlen.
Porsche North America and Risi Ferrari were second and third fastest ahead of the two new Ford GT entries.
Other class leaders included the CORE autosport entry in PC and new Ferrari 488 GTD of Scurderia Corsa.
