Oak win overall, Corvette take 4 in a row
Oak Racing has taken it’s first victory for Gustavo Yacaman, Olivier Pla and Nissan in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship with a dominant performance at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
The French Le Mans-based team led from flag to flag to score the second victory for a P2 prototype in the championship and the first for the Nissan engine and Morgan chassis.
Pole winner Yacaman led off the start and was recorded the first two stints at the wheel of the No.42 machine before handing off Pla. The Frenchman was untroubled in the run to the flag to turn the tables on the Spirit of Daytona duo – Richard Westbrook and Michael Valiente.
Oak lost out at the previous round at Watkins Glen when Alex Brundle was swamped at the final restart and passed by Westbrook.
Pla and Yacaman didn’t have the same issues today with the race running flag-to-flag without any yellow flag periods.
Corvette Racing took its fourth win in a row with Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia winning the fourth race in a row and extending their points lead to 19.
Magnussen hassled pole winner Kuno Wittmer (Dodge Viper) for the opening stint and grabbed the lead just before the pit stops when Wittmer was forced off course lapping a BMW which had just emerged from the pits.
Wittmer and Jonathan Bomarito held on for second with teammates Marc Goosens and Dominik Farnbacher taking third.
In the GT Daytona class the Dodge Viper of Jeroen Bleekemolen and Ben Keating pulled off a late race pass to win from the Porsche of Kevin Estre and Patrick Lindsey.
