Night of Champions

October 3, 2011

The American Le Mans Series “family” gathered for its Night of Champions at Chateau Elan near Road Atlanta last night – the Michelin team not only handing out a bunch of awards, but also receiving a great collection of trophies as well.

On the giving front, Michelin handed out the 2011 MICHELIN® GREEN X® Challenge season prizes to Dyson Racing (Prototype) and BMW Team RLL (GT). As part of winning the award for being the fastest, cleanest and most efficient, both teams have earned an invitation to the 2012 24 Hours of Le Mans.

In the LMP Challenge class, Michelin’s Motorsport Manager, Silvia Mammone presented the driver’s championship trophies to CORE autosport’s Gunnar Jeannette and Ricardo Gonzalez and Genoa Racing’s Eric Lux – the three drivers remarkably tied for points at the end of the season.

The Michelin LMPC Racer of the Year award was presented to Intersport Racing’s Kyle Marcelli. As part of his prize, Marcelli will enjoy a Wide Open Baja experience – trading the pavement of the American Le Mans Series tracks for a some wild off-road experience.

Last year’s winner Gunnar Jeannette earned a trip to Dubai for the Michelin Pilot Super Sport launch.

Season tire championship trophies came Michelin’s way for the LMP2 and GT classes – the GT prize earned thanks to a late race outside pass for second place by Joerg Bergmeister in Petit Le Mans.

The surprise of the night was the Promoter’s Cup award which was presented to Michelin as a note of thanks for its efforts in promoting the American Le Mans Series.

Members of the Michelin technical and marketing teams were on hand to enjoy the celebrations (pictured above).
