The newest series using MICHELIN® tires kicked off last weekend at Virginia International Raceway in Alton, Va. – the Dodge Viper Cup Series.

The latest generation of Vipers, the new 2010 Dodge Viper ACR-X, will run on the MICHELIN Racing Slick. Michelin also will provide sponsorship to the series in the form of contingency awards, along with trackside and technical support at each event.

Drivers will have to handle the potent and powerful ACR-X, which runs on a 640-horsepower, 8.4-liter V-10 engine. It beats the production model of the Viper in two major categories, with 40 more horsepower and 45 more lb.-feet of torque (605 total) generated by factory headers and a low-restriction exhaust system. The ACR-X suspension is upgraded specifically for on-track usage with unique springs, two-way adjustable shocks and adjustable sway bar links.

Ben Keating and Ryan Schimsk won the first two races at VIR and Keating has an early points lead, with 135 to Schimsk’s 115. Four more double-header weekends are still to come in the inaugural season with races in Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Utah (at Miller Motorsports Park) and Nevada. Series events are televised on the VERSUS network.

Vipers have had their run of success in the American Le Mans Series with class, manufacturer’s and driver’s championships in 1999 and 2000. As one of the most legendary American sports cars, seeing the Viper back on track is great for competitors and fans alike.
